Radio Programming Proposal
Local
Voice
These are not the final terms of the agreement
between you and Sheffield Live. ALL
aspects are negotiable. Both parties
will agree upon the final terms. If
interested, Sheffield Live will contact you to schedule a formal meeting.
Section
1
Name or title of program:
The show will be called ‘Local Voice’ because it is about the local people
speaking up about their idea on the community and the improvements they need to
make to make the community a better place to live in.
Length of show (minimum 60
minutes):
The show will be
approximately an hour long from 7-8am to allow listeners to tune in during the
day to interact with the presenters of the show during the live broadcast as
the viewers interacting is a big part of the show so it needs to be at time when most people will be actively
listening and able to tune in, which is suited to this time slot as a lot of
parents are on their travels to work/ or dropping their children off.
Genre or type of program:
The genre of the show is a
Community debate show, to debate on issues in the local area. This allows people to have a 'local voice' within their community and share their thoughts with people that have a similar problem/issue to help resolve it.
Brief description /
synopsis:
the radio show is about
community issues and the problems people face in the local area to do with
their neighbours, people, shops etc.
Production method: The production method will use both recorded and live as the presenters will be broadcast live however all the interviews and what not will have to be pre recorded as they need to make sure that the interviews are suitable content wise for them to be broadcast as the show will be aired early in a morning.
Section 2
Target audience:
Time
of day: 7 - 8am
Day(s)
of the week: weekdays.
Intended
age of audience: 25 - 35
Other
target details: The target audience is preferably women on their way to drop the children of who want to discuss their community, and how they feel about it as well as help them share their thoughts with people of a similar situation. This helps the community bond and feel like they are working together to help each other.
Section 3
Show Presenters/Hosts
#
of Hosts:
there
will be three hosts to the show as you need more than one host to hold a debate
on community issues and three is a reasonable number as you can have someone
from each point of view as well as more than one mixed opinion.
Name/Descriptions
of hosts:
The
hosts will be from south Yorkshire because they will be discussing ‘local
issues’ which means they have to at least sound like they have the same issues
or have had this issue before.
Delivery style:
Resources required
Human: People from the
local area who have had problems (latest news people) these are to interview,
as well as people phoning/texting/tweeting in to help
Equipment (Do you have
your own setup, or do you need to use LukeRadio resources?):
At the bottom of this treatment is a list of equipment that I will need for the production of my radio show. Even though some of the simple compulsory things will be provided by radio station Sheffield Live! I will still need to get some of the equipment myself as they are a community radio station.
Location:
The location will be in
different places as it would be a nice impact on the audience to actually talk
to people in their own community to see how they feel about their
community/area.
Production time (recording
and editing):
Most of the show will be
live as it is important that viewer feel a part of the show. However in future
shows there will be recorded parts from when you talk about
Additional Information
(Include schedule /
structure)
Content of show (items,
features and article):

What are your problems in the local area?
What do you think to the tabloids going on about Special measures at school? Is your child at a school on special measures?

USP: The unique selling point of this radio station is the fact that there may be already on community radio station on Sheffield Live, however the current one is run by different volunteers everyday, which means that the viewers don't become familiar with the people presenting the show and this really lets the show down, however that's what we want to get to make ours stand out. We want 3 consistent hosts that are willing to present the show every weekday to make sure that they become familiar with the presenters.
Examples of questions and
issues to be raised for interviews:
How is your local area?
Do you face any problems with neighbours?
Do you have any problems
in your postal area?
Styles of music to be
used:
Relaxing music/sound fx
because it wants people to feel welcome to the show, and quite warm music to
make you feel welcome and like a part of the show.
Will your program use advertising to make a
profit? No
The radio programme will be sponsored by small local businesses as these are more relatable to the viewers as they will be the local places they shop. This means that the adverts that will
sponsor the radio station will be the things like the following;
- Local Take away
- Sheffield Chamber
- Melody
- Cow
Additional Details:
This show is basically good for sheffield Live as it aims at the local community which this show helps the community feel apart of the show and help to bring the community together to help each other out with fellow problems they may be having.
unfortunately broadcast on Sheffield Live there is already a community radio station discussing the local people's issues however they lack the community feel to the show where the outsiders and listeners get to be involved in the show. This includes them phoning, texting, tweeting etc in to the show this gives everyone the chance to be involved. This will mean we will need someone constantly keeping track of people contacting the show however it would be worth getting them involved. However the show being on early in a morning unlike the existing we want the show to broadcast early in a morning rather than at dinner time, which fills in a gap in the market. The age/gender of the radio show will be 76% women and 24% men, this is not because of the fact it is aimed at women it's because of the fact that they are generally on the run with children and women tend to be more friendly and more interested in the community and what is going off around them, as well as them been generally the ones on the school run to drop their children off, which school runs could even be one of the 'community issues'. These people would generally be between the ages of 25- 35 which means they are amongst the right ages to have children. This show will be hamocked by the overnight service of sheffield live and the sheffield live jukebox. Our competitors are a radio station on the Sheffield Live radio station, which is communities live, which has a flaw in, well from my point of view anyway. The fact that they use different volunteers to present the show everyday really lets the show down which is why we would use three same presenters every weekday to really help the viewers in a morning really become familiar with the host, this may get more frequent listeners rather than just a one time thing, because if you like the presenters then you are more likely to come back to listen to more.
